Weekly Peace/Love/Joy Nuggets

Nuggets of Joy & Paths to Well-Being

Many of you may know I am an avid reader & podcast listener, with a deep love of life-time learning. You too? Do you love learning but would like someone to lead you towards things WORTH your time and attention? Read on…..

Path to Well-Being:

This article, published in Lion's Roar, from Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh opened my heart and mind again on this topic, nurturing and healing your inner child. ♡

Everyone has had something happen in their youth that made them feel uncomfortable or fearful. Sometimes that stuff has stuck with us. You are not alone if you feel like that sometimes. Thich Nhat Hanh helps us see ways we can heal what's hurt. This is also work I do very day with my clients, so if you feel in need of help or support as you read this, reach out to me, I can help.

Nugget of Joy:

Our family celebrated our youngest this past weekend. My goddaughter turned 11! So joyful! Her joyful spirit is always palpable, she's naturally happy and kind. She is a good teacher! So today I reflected on things I want to remember as I start this week:
Remembering to love. To celebrate life. To be kind, appreciate what life is offering us.

So many books, so little time - how can you read them all? LISTEN instead!
I've been a voracious reader my whole life, but the last number of years I don't seem to have the time to just sit and read. Enter, audio books. I LOVE audiobooks. I've had an Audible subscription for a few years now. I love it. You can order a book, and if you don't love it, you can return it (not sure the time window) and get a new one. Once you have it in your library it's yours forever and you can take notes in the app on it, listen to it again and again.

There are also listening platforms that cost little to no money, so investigate the features and pick what feels right for you.

FAV BOOK THIS WEEK
My latest fav is from the activist and racial justice activity, founder of the #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke.  Her memoir, Unbound, read by the author, is totally captivating and empowering. It chronicles her liberation after years of enduring trauma, how she found her voice and the birth of the #MeToo movement. It could also be triggering if you have survived sexual violence. If you need any support as you read this, please reach out to me. I am here for you. I am so glad this book came out. It's gonna help SO MANY people who have been in her shoes.

FAV PODCAST EPISODE THIS WEEK
This is hard to pick-- I listen regularly to Brene Brown's podcast, Unlocking Us, and this one had me grinning from ear to ear. Why? BECAUSE IT FEATURES ROY KENT! Well, it features Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent on my fav show Ted Lasso (which if you have not watched both seasons yet, go do so now. This is your real homework.) (also, WHO ELSE LOVES HIM?)

Brett and Brene unlock comedy and creativity and so if you are a fan of that, please feast on this episode. You will thank me later.

Bonus Link: Glennnon Doyle's We Can Do Hard Things is easily tied for favs with me- and this page link takes you to her latest episodes, and so go listen to her interview with Tarana Burke (two-after, so good) and the episode on Creativity, Chemistry and Claiming Your Joy.

Glennon, her sister Amanda (and sometimes Glennon's wife, Olympian soccer star Abby Wambach), now host twice weekly podcasts on a range of brave topics. Let me know which are your favs.
